Geometrical isomers differ in

  1. position of functional group
  2. position of atoms
  3. spatial arrangement of atoms
  4. length of carbon chain

Answer

(3) spatial arrangement of atoms

Solution

Geometrical (cis–trans) isomers have the same molecular formula and the same sequence of bonded atoms.

∵ Rotation about the C=C bond is restricted, the groups can be placed on the same side (cis) or on opposite sides (trans).

∴ As per NCERT, they differ only in the spatial arrangement of atoms or groups, i.e. they are stereoisomers.
