First product of the reaction between RCHO and NH2NH2 is

  1. RCH=NNH2
  2. RCH=NH
  3. RCH2NH2
  4. RCON3

Answer

(1) RCH=NNH2

Solution

∵ As per NCERT, aldehydes and ketones react with ammonia derivatives H2N-Z by nucleophilic addition followed by loss of water, forming >C=N-Z.

With hydrazine (Z = NH2) the product is a hydrazone:

RCHO + H2N-NH2 H+ RCH=N-NH2 + H2O

∴ The product is the hydrazone RCH=NNH2.
