The factor that leads to Founder effect in a population is :

  1. Genetic drift
  2. Natural selection
  3. Genetic recombination
  4. Mutation

Answer

(1) Genetic drift

Solution

As per NCERT, when a change in allele frequency occurs by chance, it is called genetic drift.

Sometimes the change in allele frequency is so different in a new sample (a few individuals that found a new population) that they become a different species; the original drifted population becomes the founders, and the effect is called the founder effect.

∴ Founder effect is a result of genetic drift.
