2.5 litre of 1 M NaOH solution is mixed with another 3 litre of 0.5 M NaOH solution. Then find out molarity of resultant solution.

  1. 0.80 M
  2. 1.0 M
  3. 0.73 M
  4. 0.50 M

Answer

(3) 0.73 M

Solution

Moles of NaOH = M1V1 + M2V2

= (1 2.5) + (0.5 3) = 2.5 + 1.5 = 4.0 mol

Total volume = 2.5 + 3 = 5.5 L

∴ Molarity = 4.05.5 = 0.727 0.73 M

Answer: (3)
