A gene is said to be dominant if : -
- It is expressed only in heterozygous condition
- It expresses its effect only in homozygous stage
- It is never expressed in any condition
- It is expressed both in homozygous and heterozygous condition
Answer
(4) It is expressed both in homozygous and heterozygous condition
Solution
As per NCERT, a dominant factor (allele) expresses itself in the phenotype whether it is present with a similar allele (homozygous, TT) or with a dissimilar allele (heterozygous, Tt).
∵ In Tt, the dominant allele T masks the recessive allele t, and the phenotype is the same as that of TT.
∴ A dominant gene is expressed both in homozygous and heterozygous condition.
