When 300 J of heat is given to an ideal gas with Cp = 72R, its temperature rises from 20 to 50 keeping its volume constant. The amount of the gas is (approximately) 10-3 mol. (R = 8.314 J/mol K)

Answer

481

Solution

Cv = Cp - R = 72R - R = 52R

At constant volume: Q = nCv T, with T = 50 - 20 = 30 K

n = QCv T = 300 52 8.314 30

n = 300623.55 = 0.481 mol

n 481 10-3 mol

Answer: 481
