Property of the alkaline earth metals that increases with their atomic number

  1. solubility of their hydroxides in water
  2. solubility of their sulphates in water
  3. ionization energy
  4. electronegativity

Answer

(1) solubility of their hydroxides in water

Solution

As per NCERT, the solubility of alkaline earth metal hydroxides increases down the group: Be(OH)2 < Mg(OH)2 < Ca(OH)2 < Sr(OH)2 < Ba(OH)2

(lattice enthalpy decreases faster than hydration enthalpy down the group).

Solubility of sulphates, ionization energy and electronegativity all decrease down the group.
