Maximum application of animal cell culture technology today is in the production of :-

  1. Interferons
  2. Vaccines
  3. Edible proteins
  4. Insulin

Answer

(2) Vaccines

Solution

Viruses multiply only inside living cells, so viral vaccines (polio, rabies, measles, mumps, rubella etc.) are produced by growing the virus in cultured animal cells.

⇒ Insulin is now mainly produced by recombinant bacteria ( E. coli), and edible proteins by microbes (single cell protein).

∴ The maximum application of animal cell culture technology today is in the production of vaccines.
