Consider the following sequence of reactions. [figure] The percentage of nitrogen in the yellow product (X) formed is %. (Nearest Integer) (Given Molar mass in g mol-1 H : 1, C : 12, N : 14)

Answer

21

Solution

Diazoaminobenzene, warmed with HCl in excess aniline, rearranges to p-aminoazobenzene (yellow dye):

[figure]

X = p-aminoazobenzene, C12H11N3

Molar mass = 12(12) + 11(1) + 3(14) = 144 + 11 + 42 = 197 g mol-1

% N = 42197 100 = 21.3%

∴ ≈ 21

Answer: 21
