The reaction that does NOT take place in blast furnace between 900 K to 1500 K temperature range during extraction of iron is :

  1. FeO+CO Fe+CO2
  2. C+CO2 2CO
  3. CaO+SiO2 CaSiO3
  4. Fe2O3+CO 2FeO+CO2

Answer

(4) Fe2O3+CO 2FeO+CO2

Solution

In the blast furnace:

At 500-800 K (upper, cooler zone): 3Fe2O3+CO 2Fe3O4+CO2, Fe3O4+4CO 3Fe+4CO2, Fe2O3+CO 2FeO+CO2

At 900-1500 K (hotter zone): C+CO2 2CO, FeO+CO Fe+CO2; limestone decomposes and CaO+SiO2 CaSiO3 (slag) forms.

Fe2O3+CO 2FeO+CO2 does not take place in the 900-1500 K range.
