Acidity of diprotic acids in aqueous solutions increases in the order

  1. H2S < H2Se < H2Te
  2. H2Se < H2S < H2Te
  3. H2Te < H2S < H2Se
  4. H2Se < H2Te < H2S

Answer

(1) H2S < H2Se < H2Te

Solution

Down group 16 the size of the central atom increases, so the E-H bond length increases and the E-H bond dissociation enthalpy decreases.

⇒ H+ is released more easily.

As per NCERT, the acidic character of the hydrides increases from H2O to H2Te.

∴ H2S < H2Se < H2Te
