In order to find out the different types of gametes produced by a pea plant having the genotype AaBb, it should be crossed to a plant with the genotype -

  1. aaBB
  2. aabb
  3. AaBb
  4. AABB

Answer

(2) aabb

Solution

As per NCERT, the genotype of an individual is found by a test cross, i.e., crossing it with the recessive parent.

⇒ The double recessive aabb forms only one type of gamete (ab), so it does not mask any gamete of AaBb.

⇒ AaBb × aabb → AaBb : Aabb : aaBb : aabb = 1 : 1 : 1 : 1

∴ Each progeny class directly shows one gamete type of AaBb (AB, Ab, aB, ab).

Answer: (2)
