A woman with 47 chromosomes due to three copies of chromosome 21 is characterized by

  1. triploidy
  2. Down’s syndrome
  3. superfemaleness
  4. Turner’s syndrome

Answer

(2) Down’s syndrome

Solution

As per NCERT, Down’s syndrome is caused by the presence of an additional copy of chromosome number 21 (trisomy of 21), so the person has 2n + 1 = 47 chromosomes.

∵ Triploidy means three complete sets (3n = 69), superfemaleness is XXX (trisomy of the X chromosome) and Turner’s syndrome is 45 with XO (monosomy).

∴ Three copies of chromosome 21 characterize Down’s syndrome.
