Solubility of MX2 type electrolytes is 0.5 10-4 mole/lit., then find out Ksp of electrolytes.

  1. 5 10-12
  2. 25 10-10
  3. 1 10-13
  4. 5 10-13

Answer

(4) 5 10-13

Solution

MX2(s) M2+(aq) + 2X-(aq)

If solubility = s, then [ M2+] = s and [X-] = 2s

⇒ Ksp = s(2s)2 = 4s3

⇒ Ksp = 4 (0.5 10-4)3

= 4 0.125 10-12

∴ Ksp = 5 10-13
