Ques. 1JEE Main 2024, 8 April (Evening Shift)

Match List I with List II Choose the correct answer from the options given below :

  1. (A)-(II), (B)-(IV), (C)-(I), (D)-(III)
  2. (A)-(I), (B)-(IV), (C)-(II), (D)-(III)
  3. (A)-(III), (B)-(II), (C)-(I), (D)-(IV)
  4. (A)-(IV), (B)-(II), (C)-(III), (D)-(I)

Answer

(1) (A)-(II), (B)-(IV), (C)-(I), (D)-(III)

Solution

(A): C6H5NH2 NaNO2 + HCl C6H5N2+Cl- H2O, warm C6H5OH (diazonium salt hydrolysed), so (A) is (II).

(B): acidified dichromate oxidises phenol to p-benzoquinone, so (B) is (IV).

(C): in the Reimer–Tiemann reaction –CHO enters ortho to –OH, giving salicylaldehyde, so (C) is (I).

(D): in Kolbe's reaction phenoxide takes up CO2; acidification gives salicylic acid, so (D) is (III).

Hence (A)-(II), (B)-(IV), (C)-(I), (D)-(III).

Answer: (1)
