Ques. 1JEE Main 2024, 6 April (Evening Shift)

[figure] The ratio of number of oxygen atoms to bromine atoms in the product Q is 10-1.

Answer

15

Solution

[figure]

–OC2H5 is o,p-directing; para is less hindered ⇒ P = p-nitrophenetole

∵ in P the two positions ortho to –OC2H5 are also meta to –NO2 ⇒ both Br enter there

Q: O atoms = 1 + 2 = 3; Br atoms = 2

⇒ ratio = 32 = 1.5 = 15 10-1

Answer: 15
