More than 70% of world's fresh water is contained in –

  1. Polar ice
  2. Greenland
  3. Antarctica
  4. Glaciers and Mountains

Answer

(1) Polar ice

Solution

Only about 2.5–3% of the total water on the earth is fresh water.

⇒ Most of this fresh water (more than 70%) is locked up as ice in the polar ice caps (Antarctic and Greenland ice sheets) and glaciers.

⇒ Greenland and Antarctica are only parts of the polar ice, and mountain glaciers hold a very small share.

∴ More than 70% of the world's fresh water is contained in polar ice.
