The figures (A – D) show four animals. Select the correct option with respect to a common characteristic of two of these animals. [Figure]
- (A) and (B) have cnidoblasts for self-defence
- (A) and (D) respire mainly through body wall
- (C) and (D) have a true coelom
- (B) and (C) show radial symmetry
Answer
(3) (C) and (D) have a true coelom
Solution
(A) is a tapeworm ( Taenia, Platyhelminthes), (B) is a jellyfish ( Aurelia, Coelenterata), (C) is Octopus (Mollusca) and (D) is a scorpion (Arthropoda).
Cnidoblasts are found only in coelenterates, i.e. only in (B).
Scorpion respires by book lungs, not through the body wall.
Aurelia is radially symmetrical, but Octopus is bilaterally symmetrical.
As per NCERT, annelids, molluscs, arthropods, echinoderms, hemichordates and chordates are coelomates ⇒ Octopus (C) and scorpion (D) have a true coelom.
Answer: (3)
