Ques. 1JEE Main 2024, 6 April (Morning Shift)

Which of the following is metamer of the given compound (X) ? [figure]

  1. [figure]
  2. [figure]
  3. [figure]
  4. [figure]

Answer

(3) [figure]

Solution

Metamers: same molecular formula and same functional group, different groups on the two sides of it

(X): C6H5-NH-CO-C6H11 = C13H17NO (amide)

(A): OHC-C6H4-NH-C6H11 — same formula but amine + aldehyde ⇒ (A) is a functional isomer

(B): C6H5-NH-CO-C6H5 = C13H11NO ⇒ (B) is not an isomer

(C): C6H11-NH-CO-C6H5 = C13H17NO, amide, groups exchanged ⇒ (C) is the metamer

(D): C6H11-NH-CO-C6H11 = C13H23NO ⇒ (D) is not an isomer

Answer: (3)
