Ques. 1JEE Main 2024, 30 January (Morning Shift)

A spherical body of mass 100 g is dropped from a height of 10 m from the ground. After hitting the ground, the body rebounds to a height of 5 m. The impulse of force imparted by the ground to the body is given by : (given, g=9.8 m/s2)

  1. 43.2 kg ms-1
  2. 2.39 kg ms-1
  3. 4.32 kg ms-1
  4. 23.9 kg ms-1

Answer

(2) 2.39 kg ms-1

Solution

Speed just before impact: v1= 2gh1= 2 9.8 10=14 m/s (down)

Speed just after impact: v2= 2gh2= 2 9.8 5=7 2 9.9 m/s (up)

Impulse = change in momentum, direction reversed

J=m (v2+v1 )=0.1 (9.9+14 )

2.39 kg ms-1

Answer: (2)
