Some vascular bundles are described as open because these :

  1. are capable of producing secondary xylem and phloem
  2. are not surrounded by pericycle
  3. possess conjunctive tissue between xylem and phloem
  4. are surrounded by pericycle but no endodermis

Answer

(1) are capable of producing secondary xylem and phloem

Solution

As per NCERT, in dicotyledonous stems cambium is present between phloem and xylem.

∵ Such vascular bundles possess cambium, they can form secondary xylem and phloem tissues; hence they are called open vascular bundles.

In monocotyledons the vascular bundles have no cambium, so they are closed.
