The moment of the force, F = 4 i + 5 j - 6 k at (2, 0, −3), about the point (2, −2, −2), is given by

  1. -8 i - 4 j - 7 k
  2. -4 i - j - 8 k
  3. -7 i - 8 j - 4 k
  4. -7 i - 4 j - 8 k

Answer

(4) -7 i - 4 j - 8 k

Solution

Position vector of the point of application relative to (2, −2, −2):

r = (2-2) i + (0+2) j + (-3+2) k = 2 j - k

Moment of force: = r F

= vmatrix i & j & k \ 0 & 2 & -1 \ 4 & 5 & -6 vmatrix

= i(-12 + 5) - j(0 + 4) + k(0 - 8)

= -7 i - 4 j - 8 k

Answer: (4)
