In the hexaploid wheat, the haploid (n) and basic (x) numbers of chromosomes are:

  1. n = 21 and x = 14
  2. n = 21 and x = 21
  3. n = 7 and x = 21
  4. n = 21 and x = 7

Answer

(4) n = 21 and x = 7

Solution

Hexaploid wheat ( Triticum aestivum) has 2n = 6x = 42 chromosomes.

⇒ Basic number: x = 426 = 7

⇒ Haploid (gametic) number: n = 422 = 21

∴ n = 21 and x = 7

Answer: (4)
