Which is the cause of the damage expressed as relative biological effectiveness?

  1. Low temperature
  2. High temperature
  3. Radiation
  4. Pollution

Answer

(3) Radiation

Solution

Relative biological effectiveness (RBE) compares the biological damage done by a given type of ionising radiation with that done by the same absorbed dose of standard X-rays / γ-rays.

⇒ RBE thus expresses the damage to living tissue caused by radiation (α, β, γ, X-rays, neutrons).

∴ The cause of the damage is radiation.
