F2 generation in a Mendelian cross showed that both genotypic and phenotypic ratios are same as 1 : 2 : 1. It represents a case of

  1. Monohybrid cross with incomplete dominance
  2. Co-dominance
  3. Monohybrid cross with complete dominance
  4. Dihybrid cross

Answer

(1) Monohybrid cross with incomplete dominance

Solution

In a monohybrid cross with complete dominance, F2 phenotypic ratio = 3 : 1 while genotypic ratio = 1 : 2 : 1.

As per NCERT, in incomplete dominance (e.g. flower colour in dog flower, snapdragon) the heterozygote shows an intermediate phenotype (pink), so phenotypic ratio = genotypic ratio = 1 (red) : 2 (pink) : 1 (white).

∴ Same 1 : 2 : 1 ratio for both indicates a monohybrid cross with incomplete dominance.
