Which of the following is not an autoimmune disease?

  1. Psoriasis
  2. Rheumatoid arthritis
  3. Alzheimer’s disease
  4. Vitiligo

Answer

(3) Alzheimer’s disease

Solution

As per NCERT, when the immune system attacks self-cells, it causes autoimmune disease, e.g. rheumatoid arthritis.

Psoriasis (immune attack on skin cells) and vitiligo (immune destruction of melanocytes) are also autoimmune diseases.

Alzheimer’s disease is a degenerative disorder of the brain (loss of neurons, deficiency of acetylcholine); it is not caused by the body attacking self-cells.

∴ Alzheimer’s disease is not an autoimmune disease.
