The electric field in a region is given by E = (2 i + 4 j + 6 k) 103 N/C. The flux of the field through a rectangular surface parallel to x–z plane is 6.0 Nm2C-1. The area of the surface is cm2.

Answer

15

Solution

A surface parallel to the x–z plane has its area vector along the y-axis: A = A j

= E A = Ey A

6.0 = (4 103) A

A = 1.5 10-3 m2

A = 1.5 10-3 104 cm2 = 15 cm2

Answer: 15
