Isoelectronic species are

  1. CO, CN-, NO+, C22-
  2. CO-, CN, NO, C2-
  3. CO+, CN+, NO-, C2
  4. CO, CN, NO, C2

Answer

(1) CO, CN-, NO+, C22-

Solution

Isoelectronic species have the same number of electrons.

CO = 6 + 8 = 14

CN- = 6 + 7 + 1 = 14

NO+ = 7 + 8 - 1 = 14

C22- = 6 + 6 + 2 = 14

∴ All four species in option (1) have 14 electrons each.

In the other options the species have different numbers of electrons (e.g. CO = 14, NO = 15, C2 = 12).

Answer: (1)
