The arrangement of the nuclei in a normal embryo sac in the dicot plants is

  1. 3 + 3 + 2
  2. 2 + 4 + 2
  3. 3 + 2 + 3
  4. 2 + 3 + 3

Answer

(3) 3 + 2 + 3

Solution

As per NCERT, the typical (Polygonum type) embryo sac of angiosperms is 7-celled and 8-nucleate.

⇒ Micropylar end: egg apparatus = 2 synergids + 1 egg cell = 3 nuclei.

⇒ Centre: large central cell with 2 polar nuclei = 2 nuclei.

⇒ Chalazal end: 3 antipodal cells = 3 nuclei.

∴ Arrangement of nuclei = 3 + 2 + 3.
