A ring is made of a wire having a resistance R0 = 12 . Find the points A and B, as shown in the figure, at which a current carrying conductor should be connected so that the resistance R of the sub circuit between these points is equal to 83 . [figure]
- l1l2 = 58
- l1l2 = 13
- l1l2 = 38
- l1l2 = 12
Answer
(4) l1l2 = 12
Solution
Let the resistances of the parts l1 and l2 be R1 and R2 (resistance length).
R1 + R2 = 12 ...(i)
The two parts are in parallel between A and B:
R1R2R1 + R2 = 83
R1R2 = 83 12 = 32 ...(ii)
From (i) and (ii): R1 = 4 , R2 = 8
l1l2 = R1R2 = 48 = 12
Answer: (4)
