Given below are two statements : One is labelled as Assertion (A) and the other is labelled as Reason (R). In the light of the above statements, choose the most appropriate answer from the options given below

  1. (A) is not correct but (R) is correct
  2. Both (A) and (R) are correct and (R) is the correct explanation of (A)
  3. Both (A) and (R) are correct but (R) is not the correct explanation of (A)
  4. (A) is correct but (R) is not correct

Answer

(1) (A) is not correct but (R) is correct

Solution

The explosion is caused by internal forces only, so it does not change the motion of the centre of mass. (R) is correct.

As per NCERT, after the explosion the centre of mass of the fragments continues along the same parabolic path which the cracker would have followed; the individual fragments fly off in different directions along different paths.

(A), which says the fragments themselves follow the same path, is not correct.

Answer: (1)
