How many plants among Indigofera, Sesbania, Salvia, Allium, Aloe, mustard, groundnut, radish, gram and turnip have stamens with different lengths in their flowers?

  1. Three
  2. Four
  3. Five
  4. Six

Answer

(2) Four

Solution

As per NCERT, there may be a variation in the length of filaments within a flower, as in Salvia and mustard.

⇒ Salvia (Lamiaceae): didynamous — 2 long and 2 short stamens.

⇒ Mustard, radish and turnip (Brassicaceae): tetradynamous — 4 long and 2 short stamens.

∵ Indigofera, Sesbania, groundnut and gram (Fabaceae) have diadelphous stamens, and Allium and Aloe (Liliaceae) have six stamens in two whorls of equal length,

∴ plants with stamens of different lengths = Salvia, mustard, radish, turnip = 4.
