Ques. 1JEE Main 2024, 8 April (Morning Shift)

Let [t] be the greatest integer less than or equal to t. Let A be the set of all prime factors of 2310 and f : A Z be the function f(x) = [ 2 (x2 + [ x35 ] ) ]. The number of one-to-one functions from A to the range of f is

  1. 20
  2. 120
  3. 25
  4. 24

Answer

(2) 120

Solution

2310 = 2 3 5 7 11 A = \2, 3, 5, 7, 11\

x2 + [ x35 ] at x = 2, 3, 5, 7, 11 is 5, 14, 50, 117, 387

f(2) = [ 2 5] = 2 (22 < 5 < 23)

f(3) = [ 2 14] = 3 (23 < 14 < 24)

f(5) = [ 2 50] = 5 (25 < 50 < 26)

f(7) = [ 2 117] = 6 (26 < 117 < 27)

f(11) = [ 2 387] = 8 (28 < 387 < 29)

So the range of f is \2, 3, 5, 6, 8\ (5 elements).

One-one functions from A (5 elements) to the range (5 elements) = 5! = 120
