Injury to adrenal cortex is not likely to affect the secretion of which one of the following?

  1. Aldosterone
  2. Both androstenedione and dehydroepiandrosterone
  3. Adrenaline
  4. Cortisol

Answer

(3) Adrenaline

Solution

As per NCERT, the adrenal cortex secretes corticoids: glucocorticoids (cortisol), mineralocorticoids (aldosterone) and small amounts of androgenic steroids (e.g. androstenedione, dehydroepiandrosterone).

⇒ Adrenaline (epinephrine) and noradrenaline are catecholamines secreted by the adrenal medulla.

∴ Injury to the adrenal cortex will not affect the secretion of adrenaline.
