A body of mass 1 kg moves along a straight line with a velocity v=2x2. The work done by the body during displacement from x=0 to 5 m is J.

  1. 0
  2. 250
  3. 1250
  4. 1000

Answer

(3) 1250

Solution

At x=0: v=2(0)2=0

At x=5 m: v=2(5)2=50 m/s

Work–energy theorem: work done = change in kinetic energy

W= 12mvf2- 12mvi2= 12(1)(50)2-0

∴ W=1250 J

A small bob A of mass m is attached to a massless rigid rod of length 1 m pivoted at point P and kept at an angle of 60 with vertical as shown in figure. At distance of 1 m below point P, an identical bob B is kept at rest on a smooth horizontal surface that extends to a circular track of radius R as shown in figure. If bob B just manages to complete the circular path of radius R upto a point Q after being hit elastically by bob A, then radius R is m. [figure]

A bead P sliding on a frictionless semi-circular string (ACB) and it is at point S at t = 0 and at this instant the horizontal component of its velocity is v. Another bead Q of the same mass as P is ejected from point A at t = 0 along the horizontal string AB, with the speed v, friction between the beads and the respective strings may be neglected in both cases. Let tP and tQ be the respective times taken by beads P and Q to reach the point B, then the relation between tP and tQ is [figure]

  1. tP < tQ
  2. tP = tQ
  3. tP > 1.25tQ
  4. tP > tQ
