Ques. 1JEE Main 2024, 8 April (Morning Shift)

[figure] Consider the figure provided. 1 mol of an ideal gas is kept in a cylinder, fitted with a piston, at the position A, at 18°C. If the piston is moved to position B, keeping the temperature unchanged, then 'x' L atm work is done in this reversible process. x = L atm. (nearest integer) [Given : Absolute temperature = °C + 273.15, R = 0.08206 L atm mol-1 K-1]

Answer

55

Solution

Initial volume (A): V1 = 10 L; final volume (B): V2 = 10 + 90 = 100 L; T = 18 + 273.15 = 291.15 K

Reversible isothermal expansion: |w| = nRT V2V1

= 1 0.08206 291.15 2.303 10010

= 23.89 2.303 55.0 L atm

∴ x = 55

Answer: 55
