The concept of chemical evolution is based on-

  1. Crystallization of chemicals
  2. Effect of solar radiation on chemicals
  3. Possible origin of life by combination of chemicals under suitable environmental conditions
  4. Interaction of water, air and clay under intense heat

Answer

(3) Possible origin of life by combination of chemicals under suitable environmental conditions

Solution

As per NCERT, Oparin and Haldane proposed that the first form of life could have come from pre-existing non-living organic molecules (e.g., RNA, protein), and that formation of life was preceded by chemical evolution.

⇒ Under the conditions of early earth (high temperature, volcanic storms, reducing atmosphere of CH4, NH3, water vapour), inorganic chemicals combined to form diverse organic molecules.

∵ S.L. Miller's experiment (1953) formed amino acids from CH4, H2, NH3 and water vapour at 800 with electric discharge, supporting this idea.

∴ Chemical evolution means the possible origin of life by combination of chemicals under suitable environmental conditions.
