The finches of Galapagos islands provide an evidence in favour of-
- Special Creation
- Biogeographical Evolution
- Evolution due to Mutation
- Retrogressive Evolution
Answer
(2) Biogeographical Evolution
Solution
As per NCERT, during his journey Darwin went to the Galapagos Islands and observed many varieties of small black birds (Darwin's finches).
⇒ From the original seed-eating finches, many other forms with altered beaks arose, enabling them to become insectivorous and vegetarian finches.
∵ These different forms evolved from a common ancestor as they spread into different geographical areas (habitats) of the islands, so they show adaptive radiation — an evidence of evolution linked with geographical distribution (biogeographical evolution).
∴ Darwin's finches support biogeographical evolution.
