Identify the part of a bio-reactor which is used as a foam breaker from the given figure. [figure]
- D
- C
- A
- B
Answer
(2) C
Solution
As per NCERT (simple stirred-tank bioreactor), the stirrer shaft carries a flat-bladed impeller lower down and a foam breaker at the top, just below the lid of the vessel.
The foam breaker breaks the foam that forms on the surface of the culture broth during aeration and stirring.
In the given figure, the flat disc on the shaft just below the lid is marked C, so C is the foam breaker.
(A is a flat-bladed impeller, B is at the drive of the shaft below the motor and D is the outlet at the bottom.)
Answer: (2)
