Let 729, 81, 9, 1, be a sequence and Pn denote the product of the first n terms of this sequence. If 2 n=140(Pn) 1n = 3 -13 and ( , ) = 1, then + is equal to

  1. 73
  2. 74
  3. 75
  4. 76

Answer

(1) 73

Solution

The sequence is a G.P. with first term 729 = 36 and common ratio 19 = 3-2.

ak = 36 3-2(k-1) = 38-2k

Pn = 3 k=1n(8-2k) = 38n-n(n+1) = 37n-n2

(Pn) 1n = 37-n

n=140(Pn) 1n = 36 + 35 + + 3-33 (G.P. of 40 terms, common ratio 13)

= 36 (1-3-40 )1- 13 = 37 (1-3-40 )2

2 n=140(Pn) 1n = 37 - 3-33 = 340-1333

= 40, = 33 and (40, 33) = 1

+ = 73
