A mixture of gases contains H2 and O2 gases in the ratio of 1 : 4 (w/w). What is the molar ratio of the two gases in the mixture ?

  1. 16 : 1
  2. 2 : 1
  3. 1 : 4
  4. 4 : 1

Answer

(4) 4 : 1

Solution

Let mass of H2 = 1 g and mass of O2 = 4 g.

nH2 = 12 = 0.5 mol

nO2 = 432 = 0.125 mol

∴ nH2 : nO2 = 0.5 : 0.125 = 4 : 1

Answer: (4)
