Fructose is absorbed into the blood through mucosa cells of intestine by the process called

  1. active transport
  2. facilitated transport
  3. simple diffusion
  4. co-transport mechanism.

Answer

(2) facilitated transport

Solution

As per NCERT, some substances like fructose and some amino acids are absorbed with the help of carrier ions like Na+; this mechanism is called facilitated transport.

∵ Fructose moves down its concentration gradient through specific carrier proteins of the mucosa cells, without the use of ATP.

∴ Fructose is absorbed by facilitated transport.
