In transgenics expression of transgene in target tissue is determined by :-

  1. Enhancer
  2. Promoter
  3. Reporter
  4. Transgene

Answer

(3) Reporter

Solution

As per NCERT, a vector needs a selectable marker to help in identifying and eliminating non-transformants.

⇒ Such marker genes, commonly called reporter genes (e.g. gus, lux, cat, nptII; β-galactosidase in insertional inactivation), are linked with the transgene.

⇒ The activity of the reporter (blue colour, luminescence, antibiotic resistance) shows whether, and in which tissue, the transgene is being expressed.

∴ Expression of the transgene in the target tissue is determined by the reporter.

Answer: (3)
