The amount of calcium oxide produced on heating 150 kg limestone (75% pure) is kg. (Nearest integer) Given: Molar mass (in g mol-1) of Ca-40, O-16, C-12

Answer

63

Solution

Mass of pure CaCO3 = 75100 150 = 112.5 kg

CaCO3(s) CaO(s) + CO2(g)

Molar masses: CaCO3 = 40 + 12 + 48 = 100, CaO = 40 + 16 = 56

100 kg CaCO3 gives 56 kg CaO

Mass of CaO = 56100 112.5 = 63 kg

Answer: 63
