The most thoroughly studied of the known bacteria-plant interactions is the :-

  1. Nodulation of Sesbania stems by nitrogen fixing bacteria
  2. Cyanobacterial symbiosis with some aquatic ferns
  3. Plant growth stimulation by phosphate-solubilising bacteria
  4. Gall formation on certain angiosperms by Agrobacterium

Answer

(4) Gall formation on certain angiosperms by Agrobacterium

Solution

As per NCERT, Agrobacterium tumefaciens, a pathogen of several dicot plants, delivers a piece of DNA known as T-DNA to transform normal plant cells into tumour (crown gall) cells.

⇒ This interaction (Ti plasmid, T-DNA transfer and integration) has been studied in the greatest molecular detail and is used to make the Ti plasmid a cloning vector for transgenic plants.

∴ Gall formation by Agrobacterium is the most thoroughly studied bacteria-plant interaction.
